Chapter 10
Lachlan
When I left Toby in the morning, it took everything in me not to change my mind and climb back into bed with him but I knew I needed some space to clear my head. I reached out through text to Will and asked him to stop by and when he agreed, I wrote a note and prepared some breakfast for him and slipped out the door telling Bonnie to stay. It was a crisp morning and walked down to take the early train to Inverness.
I didnât really need anything in particular from the city, but what I did need was to have some time to clear my head and figure out what I was doing. Every time Toby was anywhere near me, all of my senses disappeared. I stopped being able to think rationally and the only thing I wanted was to stay by his side and make sure he was safe and happy. But there was that niggling feeling that I wasnât the right person to do that for him.
I knew my own insecurities were coming into play but that didnât mean that they werenât correct. After talking to Dakota last night, it made me realize even more that I had nothing to offer Toby. I was just a sheep farmer with barely anything to my name. Iâd never had a proper relationship and had only ever hooked up with random strangers. I didnât have an education past high school and I didnât have enough experience to do anything other than sheep farming.
Someone like Toby, who owned a castle and had big dreams of what to turn it into was surely going to find someone like me holding him back. I didnât have anything to offer him other than my tiny cabin and my heart and I knew neither of those would be enough.
When I got into town, I had breakfast at my favorite little cafe in town. I found myself thinking about how I bet Toby would like it. It was a quaint little place with only half a dozen tables, tucked back behind a bakery in an old building that had been there for literally hundreds of years. The staff was kind and the food was delicious.
The owner of the place was named Emma and I had gotten to know her well over the years. I typically came there for breakfast before heading home and she always pestered me for details about my adventures from the night before. Today, she came out to fill my coffee and then plopped down in the chair beside me, joining since I was the only person in that early in the moring.
âHey Lachlan! Whose bed you coming from today?â She asked, a twinkle in her eye.
âMy own actually. Iâve just came to town this morning.â I told her honestly.
âWell, thatâs unusual. I donât know Iâve ever seen you before you find a hot piece of ass.â She huffed, looking disappointed in my answer and I had to laugh at her.
